What size storage unit do I need?
The short version: a 10×10 holds a one-bedroom apartment, a 10×15 holds a two to three bedroom house, and a 10×20 holds a three-bedroom house or a car plus goods. Details below.
When in doubt, size up. The monthly difference between two sizes is usually $20–$35. The cost of discovering mid-load that everything doesn't fit is a second truck trip, another day off work, and a bad afternoon.

Sizing by what you're moving
Dorm room or studio → 5×10
A large walk-in closet's worth. Mattress set, dresser, mini fridge, desk chair, bike, and a dozen boxes. This is also the standard student summer unit, and two roommates can usually share one.
One-bedroom apartment → 10×10
Our most-rented size, and the honest default if you're unsure. Couch, bed, kitchen table, dresser, TV, and around fifteen boxes, with room to walk in.
Two-bedroom → 8×15 or 10×15
Both work; the 8×15 is narrower and deeper, the 10×15 is squarer and easier to load along both walls. A washer and dryer stand upright in either with room to spare.
Three-bedroom house → 10×20
About a one-car garage. A full household, or a vehicle plus a reasonable amount of household goods.
Four bedrooms or more → 10×30
Deep enough to put a car at the back and still stack a house in front of it. Also common for contractors keeping materials and a work vehicle together.
Pallets, racking, or a loading dock → warehouse bay
Once you're receiving deliveries rather than carrying boxes, you want a warehouse bay with a dock, power, and a bathroom, not a bigger storage unit.
A trick that actually helps
Stack everything you plan to store in one room of your house and measure the footprint. Most people are surprised: a "houseful" of furniture is often a 10×10 once beds come apart and boxes stack four high. Disassembling bed frames and taking legs off tables regularly saves a whole size.

How much does a storage unit cost in Anderson, SC?
