Why storage near campus disappears every May
Thousands of students clear out of Clemson within roughly the same ten days. Every facility within walking distance fills, and the ones with space left know exactly what that space is worth. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a demand spike hitting a fixed supply.
Twenty-five minutes down Highway 76 towards Anderson, the spike doesn't exist. Same units, ordinary prices, and you're only making the drive twice.
What fits in a 5×10
A 5×10 is about the size of a large walk-in closet, and it comfortably takes a standard dorm room: mattress topper, mini fridge, microwave, desk chair, a bike, a TV, and ten to fifteen boxes of clothes and books. Two students splitting one is common and it still fits if you're reasonably organised about it.
A shared off-campus apartment — couch, table, multiple bedrooms' worth — wants a 10×10 instead.
Splitting a unit with roommates
One person's name goes on the agreement and the others pay them. Practical advice: agree in writing who is collecting, use painter's tape to divide the floor before anyone loads in, and put everyone's things in clearly labelled boxes. The classic problem isn't the money, it's August when nobody remembers whose speaker that is.
What not to store over an Upstate summer
Our units are drive-up and non-climate-controlled, which is fine for the great majority of dorm contents. Skip it for candles, anything chocolate, vinyl records, and musical instruments with glued joints. Electronics are generally fine if they're boxed and off the floor — but if you're storing a nice keyboard or a guitar for three months, take it home instead.
Timing it right
Reserve before finals week, not during move-out. Reserving online takes a couple of minutes and holds the unit; we confirm it with you, and then you load in whenever suits you between 6 AM and 10 PM. Month to month means if you get a summer internship nearby and want to keep it into September, nothing changes.

How much does a storage unit cost in Anderson, SC?

Do I have to buy insurance to rent a unit?
No. Ryder Mini Storage does not require tenant insurance, and we don't sell a policy you're obligated to buy.
This is unusual. Most storage operators — especially the national chains — either require you to purchase their protection plan or show proof of a homeowner's or renter's policy before they'll hand over the keys. We don't do either. If you want your belongings covered, check whether your existing renter's or homeowner's policy already extends to off-site storage; many do.
Are there any hidden fees or deposits?
No. The monthly rate you see is what you pay — there's no administrative fee, no setup fee, and no security deposit.
You're also not required to buy a lock from us at the counter. Bring your own disc lock, or pick one up wherever you like.
What size storage unit do I need?
Most people renting a one-bedroom apartment's worth of belongings need a 10×10, which holds a couch, a bed, a kitchen table, and roughly fifteen boxes.
Below that, a 5×10 handles a dorm room or studio. Above it, a 10×15 covers a two to three bedroom house, and a 10×20 fits a three-bedroom home or a car plus household goods. If you're between two sizes, size up — the difference in rent is smaller than the cost of a second trip. What are your gate access hours?
The gate is open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day, including Sundays.
Business account holders can arrange 24-hour access. The office is staffed Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to noon, so if you need a person rather than a gate code, those are the hours to come by.
Can I drive right up to my storage unit?
Yes. Every self storage unit at Ryder is drive-up access with a roll-up door, so you can back a vehicle or trailer directly to the door and unload.
There are no elevators, no interior corridors, and no hauling things across a building. For anyone moving appliances or furniture without a crew, this is the single biggest difference between an easy afternoon and a miserable one.
